What is BetterPlaylist?
BetterPlaylist is a tool that makes YouTube playlist search simple. Instead of scrolling endlessly, you can use its search, filter, and sort tools to quickly find exactly what you're looking for.
Key features include:

How to Make Private Playlists Accessible
BetterPlaylist can only access public or unlisted YouTube playlists. If your playlist is set to private, you'll need to change its visibility to use it with BetterPlaylist.
To change your playlist visibility:
- Go to YouTube and navigate to your playlist
- Click the "Edit" button on your playlist
- In the playlist settings, find the "Visibility" option
- Change from "Private" to either:
- Public: Anyone can search for and view your playlist
- Unlisted: Only people with the link can view your playlist (recommended for personal use)
- Click "Save" to apply the changes
Note: "Unlisted" is often the best choice as it keeps your playlist private while still allowing BetterPlaylist to access it with the direct URL.
Installing BetterPlaylist as a PWA
You can install BetterPlaylist as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for a native app-like experience with quick access and full-screen viewing.
On Safari (iPhone, iPad, Mac)
- Open Safari and navigate to BetterPlaylist
- Tap the Share button
- Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen" ("Add to Dock" on Mac)
- Customize the name if desired, then tap "Add"
- BetterPlaylist will appear as an app icon on your device
On Chromium Browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, etc.)
- Open your Chromium-based browser and navigate to BetterPlaylist
- Look for the install icon in the address bar (usually a computer/phone icon with a down arrow)
- Click the install icon, or go to the browser menu (⋮) and select "Install BetterPlaylist"
- Click "Install" in the confirmation dialog
- BetterPlaylist will open as a standalone app and be added to your applications
Note: The install option may also appear as a banner at the bottom of the page on some devices.

Apple Shortcut
For Apple users, we've created a convenient Apple Shortcut that makes it even easier to use BetterPlaylist directly from your device.
How it works:
Just copy a YouTube playlist link and run the shortcut, or use the share sheet to get started. The shortcut will automatically open BetterPlaylist with your playlist loaded and ready to explore.
Installation:
- Download the BetterPlaylist Shortcut
- Tap "Add Shortcut" when prompted
- The shortcut will be added to your Shortcuts app
Usage options:
- From YouTube app: Tap the share button on any playlist and select "BetterPlaylist"
- From copied link: Copy a playlist URL and run the shortcut from the Shortcuts app
- From Siri: Say "Siri, BetterPlaylist" after copying a playlist link
Tips for Better Results
- Search tips: Use multiple keywords separated by spaces for AND search, or use "|" for OR search
- Exclude content: Use "-keyword" to exclude videos containing specific terms
- Date filtering: You can enter partial dates like "2023" or "2023-10" for broader ranges
- Channel filtering: Click on any channel name in the results to quickly filter by that channel
- Export playlist data: Save the filtered playlist to a CSV file for external analysis or backup.
- Share filtered playlists: The URL updates with your playlist filters, so you can bookmark or share specific filtered playlists
